Moving season never really stops, and at least once a month someone calls us with the same question: “We’re selling our house. Can the hot tub come with us?” The short answer is usually yes, and hot tub movers make it far easier than most people expect. But it helps to plan a few things early, so the move doesn’t turn into a scramble. Here’s how I walk homeowners through it.
First Decision: Does the Spa Stay or Go?
If You’re Taking It With You
Great, now you’ll need a plan for both ends of the move: getting it out safely and setting it up at the new home. We’ll cover both below.
If You’re Leaving It
Spas are sometimes included in a home sale and sometimes not. Talk to your real estate agent about what’s in the contract. We aren’t legal advisors, but a clear agreement avoids surprises later.
If You’re Buying a Home That Has One
Ask for any service records, and have the spa inspected before you rely on it. If you’d rather move it somewhere else on the property, our team can help with that too.
Plan the New Location First
Before anything moves, decide where the spa will go at the new home. This matters more than most people think, because the same requirements apply as with any new spa.
- Surface: level, stable and strong enough for the filled weight.
- Electrical: a proper circuit installed by a licensed electrician.
- Access: a clear path from where the truck stops to the final spot.
- Rules: check any HOA or city requirements before moving day.
If the new yard needs work, start it early, because the spa can’t be reinstalled until the site is ready.
Time the Move Around Your Schedule
The spa will be out of service for a few days at minimum, sometimes longer if the new site needs preparation. Coordinate the date with your moving truck and your closing schedule, and tell us about any tight windows. We’d much rather know in advance than find out on the day.
What Moving Day Looks Like
Our hot tub movers drain the spa, disconnect it, protect it for transport, move it using equipment made for this job and bring it to the new location. At the other end, the spa is placed, leveled and reconnected, then filled and tested. If the new home needs a fresh setup from scratch, our installation team can handle that part as well.
After the Move
Expect to rebalance the water and give the spa a full test before the first soak. We recommend a good filter cleaning too, since a move is the ideal moment for a fresh start. We help homeowners relocating within Woodland Hills, Hidden Hills, Bell Canyon and many other communities.
Moving a Spa to a New Home: FAQs
Can you move a hot tub to a different city?
Often yes. Distance and access change the details, so tell us both addresses and we’ll let you know what’s possible.
How long will I be without my spa?
It depends on how ready the new site is. Many moves are completed quickly once the surface and electrical are set.
Will my spa work the same after the move?
With proper handling, reconnection and testing, it should. We check every function before we consider the job done.
Should I drain the spa myself first?
Not necessarily. Draining is part of our process, so ask us before you start.
